Still on the Go

The Still On The Go project has been running since April 2018. It continues to grow and new people are always welcome. As of March 2019, 206 people have joined the project.

The project's main aim is to reduce inactivity amongst people 55 and over, with a focus on women, increasing their level of activity to 30 minutes moderate intensity a week. We want people to live well, to help them improve their strength and fitness, and to meet other people. Using our links to Places Leisure, we hold tailored fitness and exercises group sessions at sheltered schemes across Norwich and Riverside Leisure Centre for participants of the project.  There are swimming, Aqua Jog, circuits, aerobics, Zumba Gold, Gym and Core and Balance sessions. They are all free to participants. These will take into consideration any physical health concerns and the instructors are able to modify the session to suit individuals abilities.

If anyone would like to do something not on offer, we can support them to look for a different activity. The project is open to everyone 55+ who meets the criteria, not just Cotman tenants. The project will expand into other housing providers sheltered schemes in Norwich, then Norfolk year 2 and Suffolk in year 3.

Once part of the project, there is no need to book, just turn up to the sessions. You go to what you can when you can. To be part of the project, you just need to go through a health and wellbeing questionnaire, which also asks if you have had any past experiences or barriers in participating in physical or activity. If taking part in these sort of sessions is completely new to you, you won't be the first participant of the project who is doing it the first time, as for many this is new to them.
